What is this site about
For Permit Holders...
Picture this. It is a nice sunny day and you arrive at Rotto to a packed bay to find a boat on your mooring. Whether you are the permit holder or the casual user in that situation it is no fun for anyone. Best case scenario you do laps of the bay for 20 minutes while they get the kids out of the water. Perhaps you have even experienced the frustration of nobody on on board and no contact details displayed.
For Casual Users...
Whether you are a red permit holder or a yellow permit holder, knowing that your permit gives you priority access to a mooring is great, but being able to use other moorings on a casual basis to enjoy the whole island is awesome. It is just that "am I about to get kicked off this mooring" feeling as the bay fills up can make it hard to settle in when the weather is good. Perhaps you have even experienced some unwarranted hostility when the permit holder turns up and you say you need a few minutes to get the kids out of the water.
A mutually beneficial solution....
This website is a very simple platform designed by Rottnest boaties for Rottnest boaties. It allows you to 'check-in' whenever you use a mooring casually under the shared system. Checking-in is simply the virtual equivalent of displaying your contact phone number so that the permit holder can make contact with you in advance to let you know they are coming.
If they don't know about this website, spread the word.
Quick tip: To find your mooring fast, there is a search icon in the header. All moorings are set up as two letters and three numbers. For example, Mooring number 5 in Thomson Bay TB005.
